The Sensitive Period for Language

During this very unique window of development that takes place between 24 and 36 months, language acquisition is organic and joyful. The children are exposed to a rich language environment, during every aspect of the day from the moment they arrive in the morning – language-matching materials, nomenclature, reading, spoken directions, conversation, songs, and descriptive language – all of which support this time of rapid language growth.

Our Spanish Immersion Program is an essential component of our Twos Program. It takes advantage of the child’s unconscious yet extremely productive period for learning languages. All guides in the classroom speak to the children only in Spanish. Children learn to understand and respond seamlessly to both languages.

Spanish Immersion continues in the Toddler Ones classroom. At this age, children easily grasp language. Our Spanish Immersion Program is an essential component of our Twos Program. It takes advantage of the child’s unconscious yet extremely productive language learning period. All guides in the classroom speak to the children only in Spanish. Social Awareness Emerges

Social interactions become increasingly important to our two-year-olds, and we support this interest in developing friendships though the Montessori Grace and Courtesy curriculum. Self-regulation skills are nurtured as our students practice managing their emotions and becoming kind friends: showing respect to others and expecting to be respected.

Self Care

An important part of developing a robust sense of confidence is learning to care for one’s own needs. Our two-year-olds are supported as they put on and remove their outer clothing and shoes, clean up after themselves, choose a work from the shelves and return it, make snacks for themselves, and become able to use the toilet themselves. Diapering is done standing up in the Twos classroom so that the child becomes more aware of the process and can begin to manage it on their own.

Parents and Guides Follow The Child’s Progress Together

Partnering with parents in following the child’s progress ensures that each child is developing mastery in the sequence of Montessori materials that are central to the classroom activity. Closely monitoring progress enables us to provide just the right kind of support at the right time to help children advance to their potential. Additionally, any issues in speech, vision, or fine or gross motor development that emerge can be picked up early and appropriately addressed, before they become impediments to future learning.
